I’m not usually out of the greys here, so I can’t really speak to Deadspin’s unique comment culture (most of the blogs here really have their own) but generally bringing out someone you think is trolling is bad etiquette. Leaving them in the greys keeps things less cluttered for better conversations, though on an

Please dismiss GnatB. I don’t want that right-wing troll in my subthread. Thanks.

The consistency of rhetoric and narrative suggests coordination to me, in this case and others. It’s also known that the White House loves to send out attack lines to friendly right-wing outlets pretty consistently, though whether they actually require the orders or not, as you say, is probably debatable.

I regret bringing this person out of the greys. They responded with precisely the trollish reaction I should have expected, and didn’t back up their claims with anything.

Morgan got fouled hard multiple times. If you call that diving, your incompetence is off the charts. I remember her selling a foul once, but there was a real foul there.

I don’t know if any of those contracts have been published or leaked. I do know the Flores settlement sets some minimum standards for children that these centers have been repeatedly violating, which is part of the issue here. The federal government is bound by the settlement. Just a few days ago the judge in charge

I follow a journalist on Twitter who’s kept a strong focus on the detention centers and migration issues in Libya, Sally Hayden. She manages to contact people in the centers, at least by text, pretty regularly.

This is a coordinated push by the RNC, far-right media outlets, and pretty much every racist charlatan on social media to smear AOC. Not shocked the administration sent out one of their dishonest stormtroopers to further the smear.

Not a great match for the officials. A couple of England players were playing really rough, I’d call it dirty, and the ref did nothing. By my count at least two deserved to be on yellows by the mid second half at the latest on PI grounds at least. The PK awarded looked pretty dubious to me. Going behind her to try and

This looks a lot like how migrants are detained in places like Libya (in fact I’m explicitly thinking of detention centers in Libya set up with European money to prevent people trying to cross the Mediterranean). Those centers, it should be said, widely and consistently violate human rights. But in those cases at

They were forced to admit that designation was baseless precisely because we can attempt objective standards for defining such things.

Fascists are always willing to minimize the harm they do while exaggerating anything done to them, even if it’s more inconvenience than anything, as something beyond the pale that demands a response.

The “Problem Solvers Caucus” is up there with “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” when it comes to misnomers. They never solve anything, they just align themselves with Republicans. If anyone can name a good policy that group of spineless centrism-fetishists has shepherded into law I’d like to hear it. Mostly they

I think you’re significantly overestimating the role of the media in these kinds of networks. Most of it happens through forums and social media. Facebook groups. Twitter threads. I’ve spent a lot of time watching far-right networks on social media and the actual media, even far-right sites like the Daily Caller and

This is worse than doing nothing. This is outright giving him and other bigoted politicians special treatment. You’ve taken away even the hint of enforcing the rules against them.

That guy is on his third account that I’ve seen in the past few days. Every time it uses a commenter in the burner name. It’s incredibly dumb. I’m sure we’ll see another one soon.

Except when it concerns Islamists, the huge exception that a lot of people seem to be ignoring. What makes some Atomwaffen shithead different from a Daesh chud, except that one is perceived as “foreign”?

Germany’s anti-Nazi laws sure as hell don’t seem to have broken their democracy. Every time I raise this debate I see a lot of well-meaning people taking fundamentalist positions who don’t seem to have fully analyzed the evidence out there.

Congrats, but nothing in your whiny comment suggests to me you’ve made any attempt to actually think on this issue with nuance or depth. It just sounds like a reflexive knee-jerk reaction that lets you feel superior to others, aka me, that you just called a “fucking evil fascist”.

See this argument, this argument is incredibly flimsy. You really think it’s impossible to distinguish a violent neo-Nazi group from disfavored political actors? You’re assuming it is, that there’s no metric out there that can distinguish the two. But we do it when it comes to Islamist radicals. So why do neo-Nazis
