How about tram racing? Purpose-built open-wheel trams in Formula T, stock-ish trams in NASTR, drag trams in NHTA.... And eventually we’d get the Death Tram Race.

It’s more-or-less a good thing. Calling it “Big Brother” doesn’t really track because it’s a voluntary service that you have to opt into. They’re also *not* wrong that texting while driving is a hazard and that we ought to just chill out and drive.

It’s really not that difficult to do other things and shift, you just have to prioritize your actions.

Dealer: the Sprinter is built in Germany, not the USA

64 yr old was British, that was his hard Brexit.

In our Mercedes, it always automatically brakes when it sees a particular kind of lollipop looking bush on the side of the road, because you know, it could try to cross. Several near rear end collisions because of that. Automation can not be devised to understand the context necessary to function properly. I wish that

More driving training can only help. I’d gladly go to mandatory classes if it meant that the rest of society would finally drive better.

Absolutely this.

No vehicle inspections in CA too so I can imagine all the cars with bald tires and duct taped bumpers cruising in the fast lane at 90+

While in principle I think this is awesome... Having traversed the Autobahn, I can tell you Americans can’t handle it. Poor situational awareness, poor training, no discipline whatsoever.  Our driver’s ed programs lack the training, and our licensing programs are ludicrously simplistic.

It’s sad how many Americans can’t understand “SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT” and then get mad at people who were trying to pass in the left lane.

We honeymooned in Munich/Prague/Vienna this summer. You should’ve seen my surprise when I realized that the Autobahn was the highway system and not an actual single road. I remember seeing the “end speed limit” sign and being very confused at first. Very glad I looked up road signs to know beforehand. Unsurprisingly

Yeah, no, I don’t trust 99% of my fellow american drivers remotely enough for this.

American drivers aren’t ready for this. We don’t have the strict licensing rules the Germans do.

If this happens, they’ll need to introduce a massive re-education campaign. American drivers don’t have the same discipline (and courtesy) that German drivers do.

Gotta keep the darn cats off.

People like you, who are the blind majority of car buyers, are why we have cars that all look the same. You can’t appreciate a car’s design for what it is.

The manual will only be available with FWD and in the lowest trims, and only in Europe.
