Mounting them out there also reduces the vibration/noise transmitted through structure to the fuselage occupants, and also the acoustic noise out the front/back is directed away from the fuselage.

It allows them to mount the wings closer to the ground, which allows for a slower landing speed. Putting the engine weight further aft allows the wings to also move back and give better visibility out the windows. Mounting them on streamlined struts allows the fastest airflow over the wings to be almost undisturbed,
