My old Optima Hybrid had a switch in the trunk that allowed for a dead 12V battery to be jumped by the main battery.  Then you could start the car and recharge while driving.

Correct!  Kia/Hyundai’s E-GMP platform is modular and can be made longer or shorter to accommodate different vehicles.  This means one or two motor versions and different sized battery packs depending on use.
