Before I got to the agency I’m at now, I was working at the tax collector’s office - in the department for delinquent and bankruptcies - so that thought came up a lot.

“I pay X in taxes” is a backdoor way of saying “I pay your salary/I own you” about government officials. As a government employee, I love hearing that phrase. “Good for you” is my usual response.  “I pay taxes too, idiot” is usually on my mind when I hear that.

The book was better than both movies.

Although the original (aside from the bad CGI cat attack) had some very beautiful and subtle images, like how dirty Eli nails are when she’s hungry. The remake was too slick and polished. But you didn’t have to read while watching the remake, which I’m sure makes it more palpable…
