I also had a ‘13 passat TDI. It was trouble free for nearly 90k miles before it went back to VW because it had the TDI motor VW couldn’t fix, so they shortchanged the warranty. It was replaced with a 535D which has been equally reliable for over 80k miles. Less milage but double the torque.

GM models - usually cop versions (like the caprice/SS) have a display that shows idle hours.  Many patrol cars simply sit on the side of the road with the engine running for AC, and it’s not good for the car.  It’s actually better to find one that’s been driven hard on occasion than one that spent it’s entire life…

The older VW TDIs have an injection pump on top and in front of the engine bay, which makes service easy. Until the gaskets within fail because the switch to low Sulphur fuel dries them out (which WILL happen). The software only adjusts the injection quality to much, the rest you have to do while HITTING THE PUMP WITH…
