First, the trailers look like shite. With the exception of some nice “other-worldly” scenic shots seen in the trailer, it’s got a bad Scifi TV movie set/locations/acting. I’ve never read the books, so I expect those who have to be even more let down than I am...

They are great cars if you can live with the fact that these cars don’t have carpet, the shift column is torn out and hacked together, the center console is completely removed, the doors have generic panels inside and the seats are a weird mix of vinyl and cloth.

That’s a whole lot of details for something that wasn’t even animated or even storyboarded. Seeing how expensive animation was back then - anything not needed for the story was left out. Even animating or showing the adults from the shoulders up (the most difficult to get right) was not shown.
