I don’t really think they are crooked per se - more like they are willing to take a memo passed along to them from NBA management to start calling more fouls or travelling in order to reign in more aggressive team play.

It all comes down to what the league sees as the “better story.”

I’m still salty about the Lakers/Kings finals - similar meddling including kicking out the star player during a clutch time at the end...
