A wealth tax above a certain level of wealth is actually a very reasonable thing to have. Make the cutoff like $20 million net worth or something and tax a small percentage each year. Nobody under $20 million net worth will be hit with the wealth tax at all.

Jason’s summary quite garbled what the topic was. Several Senators have floated the idea of assessing a tax on unrealized gains; Musk was simply pointing out that based on his financial situation, he would need to sell shares to pay that assessment. There currently is not a tax on unrealized capital gains.

Probably people not bothering to charge it, and getting somewhat cruddy mileage compared to a regular hybrid, and going to that.

If lawyers always agreed on matters of law, we wouldn’t need courts. I can see where Lehto is coming from, but I think it’s pretty clear that the intent of this law was to penalize intentional dishonesty, not unintentional mistakes.
