The FA with a failed #2 rod was also stock. As was the Forester XT with a FA that overheated and destroyed the heads, pistons, etc. Both of which I had to replace with full longblock assemblies. Both cars had less than 7K miles.
I see more rod knocks than ringlands. But anyway, it’s not like the FA has worked out all of the kinks either. I’ve seen more than one rod crash through a block...
The enthusiast part of me says too long. The technician part of me that has worked on a FA says not long enough.

The EJ needs to be phased out for emissions regulations as is. A hot version would not be feasible, emissions-wise, without updating the powerplant.

The FA20 doesn’t have much turbo lag at all, thanks to the twin-scroll and the revised turbo location. The current 3.6 is old and tired. As an enthusiast, I’m hoping a turbo flat-six. As a Subaru technician, I’m hoping for something easier to work on.

Peak power, yes. You should hit peak torque anywhere between 3000-4000 depending on turbo and exhaust setup. You might be able to get some wheel spin without dumping the clutch.
