Any word yet on if Riot Punch will be served?
You can now order a John Kruk Bloody Mary. It's Taco Bell Hot Sauce, Vodka, with only one ice cube.
I wholly disagree. Not everyone wants to suffer for a tattoo. I think it's completely reasonable to look to lower pain areas, and then one can even experiment with their pain threshold, and go from there for their next. (Because one tatt is never enough ;) ). As not everyone knows their pain tolerance until push comes…
It's been my experience as a casual snowboarder that most everyone on the hill wears ski goggles anyway.
Blew my mind that the guy had a beacon but neither of the other guys did. Bare minimum backcountry equipment: probe, shovel, beacon.
True, especially slopes with wind loaded slabs and anything with underlying freeze/thaw layers. Also, I've seen pretty shallow stuff wet slide in spring from top layers getting overloaded with meltwater.
True, but this guy had a beacon and his friends didn't. Which is completely absurd. Every member of your party needs a beacon if you're going into uncontrolled area. Period.
Very true. An avalanche course will (should) cover assessing risk, looking at snow conditions etc. But assessing all those things and making the decision to turn around comes with experience and people can be dumb and cocky. Having the equipment is the absolute bare minimum.
The scariest part of this is the rescuers. They did not know how to use their recuse gear, and if it weren't for the good fortune of the guys ski pole poking up through the surface, he'd be dead. Why bother wearing a beacon if your buddies don't have one to find one?
Once again somebody who should be dead because of poor choices. Don't go in to the backcountry without a beacon. You shouldn't all ski in a group like this as well. And then skiing willy nilly in to a terrain trap like that gully all at once is just stupid. If this guy's pole wasn't sticking out of the snow, it…
These aren't the guys I'd want saving me.
Big difference between the states and Europe: they don't do avalanche control off-piste in Europe. Good to know if you're over there, as these folks were. Also, the sweet spot for avalanches is between 36-38 degrees, but can happen anywhere from 25-45 degrees, not necessarily the steepest terrain on the mountain.…

Sacrificing money for his long term health.
I was going to say the same thing. I would much rather tolerate intense pain for a few hours, than tolerate a less-than-optimal tattoo placement for the rest of my life.
Probably a good chart to consult if you're considering your first one though. My first tattoo was on my back on the shoulder blade and it hurt like hell.
Yeah, it shouldn't be based solely on that, but it's good information to have (I think anyway). If you were getting a tattoo, but considering two different places, this could be beneficial.
"Penn State students should not be praised for raising money for charity."
.....
Wait, seriously? Have you met a college student? I'll give you a hint: raising $13 million for charity in the largest student-run philanthropy is not normal and is deserving of attention and admiration, no matter what school it is.
