That is exactly the question I came here to ask. Asphalt deforms under stress a certain amount anyway, so the energy absorbed by that deformation normally just becomes heat. If these piezoelectric roadways have less rolling resistance than asphalt, then they’re just taking energy that would otherwise be wasted as heat

Yes, thank you. The force is not “wasted” normally on the road as the article states. Sure, some of the force probably goes to breaking down the roadway which it would certainly be nice to avoid, but this will almost certianly cause cars’ engines to work incrementally harder, cancelling out any gains. If anything,

So do they manage to do this without increasing rolling resistance to the cars? If the road deforms more than typical asphalt, they really wouldn’t be capturing lost energy as much as taking energy from people’s cars (which aren’t exactly thermodynamically efficient to begin with)

lol, David Tracy thinks he has a car that exceed the speed limit!

I think it’s more a case of the average Jalopnik writer is a masochist and thinks reliable, sensible cars are for the weak.

I would pretty much do exactly like they did to the Mini. Modernize it for daily driving (heated seats, AC, etc.), touch up the engine (the 2.5 out of the TR6 is on point) and a Toyota 5sp. And of course the mandatory Webasto sliding fabric sunroof.

There are people doing Wagoneer refreshenings, but nothing to the level of Icon or Singer.

Ooooohhh. Now that’s a fun question. Off the top of my head-

I gave a cop in Atlanta a Pepsi and she beat the shit out of me!

But then you’re denying yourself an SM.

So you mean it’ll be good?

Every time I’m driving and notice a questionable noise or smell, I assume it must come from my car, which is about to explode.

Can we start a petition to have the owner crushed and the car saved?

You can fix that with different gear ratios to counter the tire size. It’s been done a buncha times. I’m a fan.

They’d work fine, as long as it was geared appropriately.

“also different diameter tires front and rear won’t work well with 4x4"

Sometimes rules have to be broken/bent in the name of safety.

While the truck is clearly in the wrong here, the Yaris should have just went through the yellow. If someone is barreling down behind me, I always go through the yellow. It is not like there was a risk of hitting oncoming traffic, just a risk of being ticketed. In any case, I would rather have a ticket than get rear

I got poly bushings and it changed everything for the better. No added harshness but a more responsive, better feeling ride. Turned the car from a boat into something drivable (Legacy)

When I had a VW golf advertised as “xx% quieter than the last generation”, tire noise and every little tick and squeak bothered the heck out of me. Then I bought a fiat 500 abarth. There might be squeaks and rattles, but all I can hear is exhaust and fwshhhhhhh pop fwshhhhhh pop (Spool, backfire, spool, backfire)
