Agreed. Not sure about zany, but some self-awareness of the fact that the guy is dressed up like a bat wouldn’t hurt. I couldn’t get into any of the Nolan films mainly because they were so joyless. (“Why so serious?” joke here)

I just watched The Martian last night and while I loved it, I kept wondering why there hasn’t there been more outrage about the Park and Kapoor characters being rewritten. Kapoor at least got a line acknowledging the fact he was Hindu, but Park in particular was such a WTF moment given that every other featured woman…
Call me cynical, but I feel like this movie is doomed... even if it is shedding a really bad actress. The name “Alien: Covenant” alone is going to drive off a ton of people because it sounds like a bad video game. And Prometheus was bad enough that a ton of people are going to just wait to see it as a rental or FX…
