I mean isn’t that half the point?

Saru wanted to help Tyler, but by doing so has seemingly erased all trace of him—instead, it’s pure Voq in Tyler’s body now.

Precisely. I’m all for diversity, but let’s not keep or unnecessarily kill characters if it doesn’t serve the story. The entire Culber situation was 100% believable and served the story well. In fact, it gave the storyline more weight in my opinion because it wasn’t just another rando redshirt moment. Unless you’re of

I’d prefer to not have shows reviewed by people who clearly hate the show.

I never saw the Lorca twist coming and I totally bought into it — for all the reasons you pointed out. Lorca actually makes much more sense with this reveal.

I thought you ragequit the show at the mid-season break. I’m not sure why you didn’t, since it’s clear you still hate it.

“New places” has meant conceptual and/or physical since forever.

Apparently not well...

That made me laugh way harder than it should have. I think now we just need a PSA with a producer of Discovery pointing at JJ and saying... I learned it from YOU DAD! I LEARNED IT FROM YOU!!!

New places do not have to mean physical locations, but more existential/conceptual ones.

She came back just to subject us to her bitching about how much she hates Discovery. I used to like her, but this is just — to use her word — absurd.

Counterpoints:

This makes me grateful that I could detach from the meta-commentary of the show early on. It was really marring my relationship with what would be on-screen. Some good points, though, about how careful this show needs to be about the way it breaks down its plots. And this show does still remind me a lot of Fringe—the

IWait... maybe this is a memory from another timeline, but i thought KT left io9 some time ago, which I assumed was from a desire to never see another episode of Discovery ever again.

I read a couple of different recaps of Discovery each week, and I find that they say a lot more about the particular reviewer and what he or she expects STAR TREK to be than about the particular show.

If the show itself can’t hide the twist, so you just have to lie in the press and public, you’ve failed.

Cool story.
