It’s for the rating, not the real world. They feather-foot during the EPA test and the 4-cyl never uses the turbo yielding a good EPA number. Real customers actually use the turbo resulting in the same or worse mileage than a V6 or even V8. Example: Eco-boost F150.

Ok, my statement was a simplification. As a professional F1 driver, there are times you let someone past and times you must defend.

Any F1 driver that didn’t go for that move, shouldn’t be one.
Any F1 driver that didn’t instinctively give a head fake to the overtaking car, shouldn’t be one.
Any F1 driver that could get that head fake and keep it on the road in wet conditions could be a world champion.

The original 1960 Chevrolet Corvair had the spare in the frunk like a VW Beetle but the marketing department wanted to advertise more trunk space so in 1961 they jammed it in the rear by the engine. In addition to heat-cycling deterioration it made the Corvair’s ass-happy handling even more so.

I think they extend from the inner wheel well liners to help keep them from getting dislodged during trail driving. Odd styling though.
