I have no idea how people can see Jason’s articles and take the Changli as anything but a chance to have some fun and learn something about Chinese manufacturing industry and small EVs. Is the next casualty of 2020 a tragic loss of joy?

This “car”, this series of articles, and possibly even Jalopnik, are parodies of the automotive press, establishment, and industry. If you are here for a serious review of the merits of a 1.1hp EV, I think you might want to try one of the EV fan boi sites or one of the dying automotive magazines. The Changli and Jason…
Every car manufacturer in the world is having problems restarting their lines with supply chain problems and additional safety precautions. Tesla has the additional complexity of launching a new vehicle. This is in no way surprising.
You didn’t fix shit. That’s exactly what I said.
I won’t invest in Nikola until they get an evil genius, maniacal prophet, snake-oil salesman.
The VCs are not concerned if the business plan is viable, only that it is sellable. If they can package it up with a believable story and then prove that people will use the service (even at a crazy subsidized price) they can attract more investment, cover their initial outlays, and hope that it continues long enough…
On paper. A real driver buys the Lotus.
No, I don’t think I’ll miss Nissan.
I think you are missing the point. This thing was born to die. Jason and David will continue amping up (no pun intended) the crazy stunts until they break it. Then they will fix/upgrade it in the worst imaginable way and do it all again. GMG wrote the check and no matter how in love Jason is with this contraption, it…
That is so you can tell if your Glas is half empty or half full.
only two recharges required.
ChangLi is trying to shake the toilet paper off its foot!
And we found where they saved all the money - in the batteries and motor! Cue sad music. And that’s not a backup camera, it’s a rear end collision warning system. Next up, hot-rodding the ChangLi!
You could pick these up in the 20s not so long ago (15 years maybe). Since then, sales prices have risen considerably faster than inflation. That helps offset the high maintenance cost which makes them more desirable and further drives prices.
It’s an attempt at humor. RE is known for making retro styled bikes. Put down your internet warrior sword.
GM can design and build new stuff in Detroit but when it leaves the auto bubble, the message gets lost in GM sales and dealers, two groups that get paid based on how much they sell, not what they sell. GM has the classic legacy company problem - they don’t want to jeopardize the things that pay the bills for the thing…
They were unloved by the marketplace (relatively).
FTFY
Another in a long line of cars I should have purchased when they were unloved.
Anyone who would trade a P1800 for a Scimitar deserves to work at Jalopnik. I meant that as a compliment but you can take it either way.
