Came here for this. Well done.

For my entire career, I have chosen work or home to reduce commute time. I cannot understand my neighbors that will sit in traffic 2 hours a day. That is your life people! With that said, most metro rail systems quickly become jobs programs and cease to be seriously engineered transportation solutions.

Are we actually discussing whether a 5000lb, 500hp machine can effectively transport a 20lb baby?

Patience young Jedi. No one ever said markets are smooth or even fair. They are lumpy but over time they smooth out. In this case a spike was created by the gamed IPO market where VCs pumped and dumped. Some undeserving people made money and some ignorant/greedy people will lose money but Uber/Lyft will reach their

Fascists and proto-fascists wanted strong command and control of the market. “Let economics solve the problem” is exactly the opposite. If Uber and Lyft are as bad and unsustainable as many claim, then customers, workers, and investors will learn to avoid them and they will go away.

The Smart car became a styling exercise. Yes, form mostly followed function, but there was too much fluff and not enough quality. Every part of the Beetle was there to achieve a mission - cheap, reliable, transportation.

My garage contains an NA Miata, an early model Corvair, a first gen Toyota Tundra, a classic Fiat 500, and a BMW 2002. “Engineering Honesty” indeed.

Children don’t make their own decisions. Next time at least use an adult strawman.

Uber’s three main performance metrics are the driver’s rating, how many rides the driver accepts, and how many times they cancel a ride. Generally, Uber requires drivers to maintain a high ride acceptance rate, such as 80% or 90%, and a low cancellation rate, such as 5% in San Francisco (as of July 2015), or they

And when all the stupid VC money runs out, they will just be smarter taxi services and will have to live in the real world. We are tying ourselves in knots over a problem that will eventually solve itself. Meanwhile, enjoy the ride — the subsidized ride!!

Yes but they are free people. You should not remove choices simply because some people make bad ones. Singapore is a nice place to visit but I don’t want to live there.

Should the government attempt to prevent people from making potentially bad financial mistakes? Remember, in 2008 they tried to increase home ownership by pushing people into buying property they could not afford.

So are the 900,000 Uber drivers the dumbest f***s on the planet or is it just possible that those “facts” are cherry-picked by people that can’t stand for people to have employment choices, even bad ones?

You left off one benefit of Uber and Lyft - stupid investors in these unsustainable businesses pay for you to take a taxi!!

Uber offers them a choice of pickups. The driver can choose to accept the job or not. The driver can also turn off the app and not work at all. It is the very definition of contractor. California is trying to solve an intractable social and economic problem by redefining work. If Uber and Lyft are put out of business

Well they do if they’re smart. There are lots of powerful people out to get Ghosn in Japan and France.

One simple rule that would have saved the Smart Car: “Don’t build crap.”

I revived a ‘64 Corvair (center) from a 39 year barn slumber and drove it 600 miles to Ypsilanti Michigan for a picture in front of the Willow Run plant where it was manufactured.

Ok I understand your position. Humans are indeed animals so I personally do not feel offended by being lumped into that classification. Regardless, it is unfair to accuse someone using a correct but clinical term like “female” as being misogynist. That devalues the word. Most likely the author was trying not to offend
