When I was at my grandfather's house is mid-Michigan there was a marbled orb-weaver that had made an enormous web on his porch. I have never seen a spider like that before, and I hope to never again.

That's probably a good plan. I've seen a giant ass moth, a grasshopper, and a couple of spiders in the produce of the grocery store where I work. A customer showed me a picture of a (live) black widow he found in his grapes. The people that work in the produce department know to be on the lookout for banana spiders.
