This was an extraordinary look into the lengths some car companies will go to to get good press for a terrible product.
Too bad they didn’t know that Jalopnik is an actual car journalist site. They would never have invited them.

Had to make a double check to make sure I was reading an article on Jalopnik, this felt like the original website
A 3 year development cycle on a brand new EV? Sounds legit AF. LOL.
PS - I don’t want to seem critical of an article I really enjoyed. But I think I could be hoodwinked by nice paint and upholstery at a nice price, so want to know more about the basics of the vehicle. Maybe the author did too?
Looks like Vauxhall found a buyer for a shitload of excess Vectra C front grilles.
I get that you were taken to an island in the South China Sea, owned by a billionaire, Mr. Vin Man, where you were wined and dined, but followed by his hench men and women, before engaging in hand to hand combat with 100 other bloggers and influencers. And that you returned safely, even after the battle with Bolo…
But did you get to meet Hugo Drax?
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound? Everybody look, what’s going down...
There’s a lot of Vincongs in here ...
Why is it so ugly?
Even if the engineering is bad, at least hide it with better looking body panels. Please, replace that front face.
I’ve always been a fan of nations which pull themselves up by the bootstraps. Japan did this after WWII, Korea did this after the Korean war in an almost inconceivable way; I’m a huge fan of South Korea and many aspects of the society and culture (my last four cars have been Genesis vehicles, and I do not regret it).
There are somethings wrong
Man, that was a tough read.
Love this story, excellent job! I’m more curious though about the cost of the battery pack at the “buy it now” price. I think I’m just ignorant as to what these things cost, but I assumed a full on battery pack for an EV would be less than $10K. These appear to be $15-20K, is that correct? Is that a competitive price?
Maybe they should drop the EVs and focus on VinDiesels
Just pointing out that even their factory is using VinManuTech assembly equipment. WOW.
Kevin - to you and the other Jalopnik writer, we kindly ask for more articles like this. So often when journalists are flown out for an event, 90% of the reviews of any car it is is positive with a slight negative sentence at the end. This felt real, unadulterated, truth, and resonated with a lot of us readers, check…
The VINcompany could always go back to ICE engines and make a VINdiesel. Ill leave that here....
Seems to me that’s what VinFast was expecting.
I think you were doing your trip wrong. You should have spent 90% of your energy on the trip itself - scenery, food, entertainment, and etc. Then loosely focus the remaining 10% on those cars.
