They can. Except for the fact that the recent cases involving Teslas proves that people aren’t always honest when it comes to crashes (duh?) and therefore, the logs that are in Teslas have, I think, proved their worth/value.

It is my understanding that cars that are equipped with EDRs actually must say so in the owner’s guide/manual. Whether people READ said owner’s guide/manual is another point of discussion altogether.
