I had that happen to me in Halo 2 once, I went around as Master Blob shooting untextured aliens with my blank looking AI team mates in a low poly Gamma Halo. it eventually fixed itself when I got to the waterfall part with the buggers. It was funny and I wished I recorded it.

Nah this is more PS2 then PS1, its neat though they can scale the graphics back that far.
