The sad thing is that in many of these communities, it is the women who enforce patriarchal gender norms. Not always the men.

People don’t really freely choose how they dress. They’re responding to the various cultural pressures placed on them. Obviously shitting on women who dress this way is not appropriate, but that doesn’t mean we can’t recognize that the gendered standards of clothing at play are fundamentally sexist and oppressive.…
