Government run social media... What could ever go wrong...

The only thing worse than social platforms run by capitalists, is...  social platforms run by governments.

I mean...that is all it is. It’s an ad tracker. It’s used to track if you saw an ad, and if you bought something as a result of that ad...

conservatives, this fucking clown included, don’t give a single fuck about free speech. What they want is freedom from consequence when they spread vicious misinformation and incite violence. And of course, they want the government to silence anyone they, personally, disagree with. It’s deeply disturbing the way

That...that is literally how this works. If you have ad the tracking pixel as part of using ads so that ad buyers (the companies who created the ads) know if people are seeing them and can attribute sales to ad views...

Yeah, I’m dumbfounded too. The companies hosting the data are somehow common carriers, but the companies moving the zeros and ones from the hosts to your computers/phones are not?! The depth of stupidity within the GOP is staggering.

And won’t they be MORE willing to remove user content if they’re legally liable for it?

can someone explain to me the practicalities of the law shielding the host from liability AND allowing them to remove user content?

This whole article is incredibly dishonest. Facebook and Google (and plenty of other companies) have made these pixels available for years. Until recently, Gizmodo had dozens of trackers running on their sites. It’s websites that choose to download and install the code on their website and they can remove it at any

Actual non clickbait headline: “Someone at FAFSA added ad trackers to the site”

Burlingame is the next city to me, so I should pay this place a visit. Maybe I’ll arrange a trip with all my ex-colleagues who are now working for Meta on VR. Not sure they’d all fit in the store though!

I’ve got some more bad news for you - Torch is gone, too.

I mean I understand the reflexive dislike of anything from Meta, but that seems like a perfectly respectable lineup. Moss II in particular is exciting.

this isnt a bezos problem 100%. that company knows damn well how far inland they are and how big of a ship can fit under that bridge. they just didnt give a shit and because the rich keep getting richer and this company is rolling in money they can make the government do whatever the fuck they want. so oceanco made

There was no legal compulsion to carry out the auction.

Nah.

WhatsApp can read some of your messages if the recipient reports them (ie. forwards them to the moderators)“

That would be an issue to be settled between you and the recipient, not between you and Facebook.

Claim: But, if you report a conversation that I’m having with you, you’ve just broken encryption without giving me a “conscious choice.””

Not sure that I am seeing the problem here. It seems that WhatsApp can’t see the contents of your message unless somebody reports it, in which case the already decrypted by the end user message is sent to WhatsApp moderators. How is this any different than if I were to take a screenshot of a message and message it to
