Nate Parker isn’t really interested in equity; he’s interested in privileging black masculinity and himself. It’s really ugly and I’m not here for it. If your pro-Blackness isn’t pro-woman, pro-queer, pro-trans, pro-disability, it is NOT pro-Blackness; you just want to oppress as you yourself were oppressed.

Because when I am polling low with Women, I hire a guy who knows how to deal with them!

Why is there so much couching and hedging but when, say, an actress decides to work with Woody Allen, she is unambiguously criticized?

I think the “Neither party has made false statements for financial gains” statement speaks volumes. The implication is that Amber is telling the truth and that is more culpability than I thought Johnny (and his PR team) would ever allow.

But for whom he’s writing is clear: old white male fogies who are similarly interested in how these women fit into their own narratives.

Yeah, the relationship between Spock and Uhura really pissed me off. I understand they had to set themselves apart from the original, but it was a such a radical departure and I felt like it glossed over the fundamental difficulties the original version of Spock had in relating to other people.

I’m going with “Sulu was not closeted, he just didn’t bring his personal life to work.”

they are both super conservative tho...but you know they’ll be the ones ultimately judged for this...because thats how they do.

Well first of all, the idea that we’re “twisting Gene Roddenberry’s creation” is like... well, I don’t remember Spock and Uhura Pon Farring in the original. And I don’t remember a whole lot of other shit in nuTrek being in TOS either. We kinda already crossed that bridge a while ago.

Clueless American here, so feel free to point out how I’m wrong - but this strikes me as some men (Boris, Nigel, etc) made a big mess then walked away, leaving it for the women to clean up.

I'd wager he doesn't write about them at all, but if he did, he probably wouldn't be describing them as willowy alien love goddesses who descend from the heavens to torment mortal men with their celestial allure.

But if they created a new character who was gay, then he would be the “gay character” — essentially a token.

He’s got a good point. Just because Takei is gay doesn’t mean Sulu has to be. Takei is the definitive Sulu, and if he says the character isn’t gay, then he isn’t gay as far as I’m concerned. There’s no reason the gay actor’s character has to be gay any more than a straight actor’s character has to be straight. To

How does he write about women who are not conventionally attractive? I'm curious about that.

So real talk: weight gain or loss should be an off-limits section of writing, especially when a woman is carrying twins, WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU THINK THE TWO BABIES WERE GOING TO GROW. “Bellied out like a sail” Jesus Christ. Also the way he describes women makes it clear he is still waiting for his manic pixie dream

I know the answer! They’re written by boners, for boners.

People give Texas a lot of shit but there has been some good stuff happening in our major cities for a while.

I stubbed my toe on the low bar, but I do agree.

The PEACEFUL protest, during which the Dallas police and the protesters took friendly pix together and posted them on Twitter.

that’s the thing I actually am impressed by and will give DPD credit for - they didn’t just start shooting at protesters. They could have just shot into the crowd, but they didn’t. They seem to have realized it wasn’t coming from the protest.
