Of course. Jack Donaghy has to be shepherding this show into production. It clearly comes from the same mind as Homonym.
So it's a double whammy!
Arrangements for War is so good. It's a hell of a downer, but brilliant. I remember listening to it and thinking, "Wow, this is the most un-Doctor Who thing I've ever heard, which of course makes it incredibly Doctor Who."
I can see this working. He doesn't have a persona like some of the other correspondants, so it won't be weird when he's suddenly being himself at the host's desk. And he seems really smart. I just hope he's just as good at delivering jokes as he is at delivering hard truths, because I haven't quite seen him do that…
The reveal that the femputer is actually a fembot (which is, after all, just a smaller, walking femputer) is one of my favorite jokes in the show.
I've listened to Strangers to Ourselves a few times now, and I'm kind of hoping that all the really good songs somehow made it on to this one.
When I was a kid, my dad was always playing this one live album by REO Speedwagon. I was into classic rock at the time, so I was okay with it, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the band. Then I got into alt and indie rock and basically stopped listening to all the bands that dad listened to. I'd play him a Pixies song…
God, I want to like this season, but so far all the plots have been lazy and the jokes lazier. Legitimately funny jokes get hit too hard (like the Brenda joke and the whole thing with Britta's pants) and the rest of the jokes are just lazy (someone put a taco in the files and it smells!) And stuff like Britta's weird…
Agreed. I thought it was really humanizing for a character that can sometimes be a bit too broad. Plus, there's something inherently funny to me about forcing a character like that to be the straight man for an episode.
Plus, breaking it is just so much more SATISFYING.
The Riches really was a fun, well-plotted show. I was all about that shit when it was airing. I came because I was a huge Izzard fan. I stayed because I developed a huge crush on Shannon Woodward.
I used to listen to his French standup all the time when I was learning French. I got really good at understanding French, provided Eddie Izzard was speaking it.
"Thog! What matter? Thog fire-maker!"
"Thog make fire for Ogg and Oog! Thog no make fire for Thog!"
"That stupid!"
I was really into MASH the first time I saw "War is the H Word", so all the MASH jokes landed perfectly for me. The "This isn't a war; it's a murder" bit is especially great.
Okay, but you say that like the joke in that scene ISN'T on the Barenaked Ladies. Except it totally is. The whole point is that the ones who are defending BNL are acting ridiculous and absurd and sound like crazy people. Plus, I'm pretty sure the whole thing is a dig at the band because they did The Big Bang Theory…
I had never thought about it before now, but, reading this, I definitely agree with you. It works really well with the very deliberate pacing of the specials. Also, the sudden, intrusiveness of the voices adds to the whole quiet depression vibe that Charlie Brown has.
I'm not saying that there weren't furries before Space Jam. All I'm saying is that there were a lot more furries AFTER Space Jam.
The Gremlins tag was my favorite thing in either episode. I would watch the shit out of that movie. Also, was the "they're attracted to love" a reference to Hobgoblins or was that a thing from the actual movie that I forgot?
