I think the solution pictured on the Mercedes F1 car rendering is the best of both worlds. The open-cockpit design has reached its limits it cannot be made any more safer without a radical redesign of the concept.

IndyCar really needs to address and communicate this situation accurately and clearly concerning their own future.
