In the late 80s/early 90s, the real gas workhorse engines for GM were the 350 that got slightly better mileage but worse low end torque than the 300, the 454 that got worse mileage but much more towing.

Either one is pretty typical VW. The engines are generally good. Everything attached to the engine is another story.

I’ve always been more of a coupe person, so the MGC GT was always the way I’d go. Besides that, I always preferred the look of the chrome bumpered MGB/C to pretty much all the other British sports cars (Jag and Aston excluded).

Smog testing isn’t an issue here as it’s grandfathered in, but yes they are gas hogs, as was every truck engine at the time they were made.

Unfortunately most of these trucks were driven to destruction or are being held onto by loving owner. I still want a 300 inline 6 powered Ford, but they seem to be hard to come by locally.

I think the fundamental issue here revolves around the concept of patina. As gearheads, I think most of us understand this sort of wear isn’t considered damage, and is in fact often a highly desirable trait.

The main problem I have with IPAs is that when trying a new IPA, you don’t know until you get it if it’s going to be a flowery complex flavor, very citrusy, or just bitter with no complex notes at all.
