sorry but doesn’t this constraint also apply to ICE cars? if you were to buy an ICE car, you’d be looking at a wagon or an SUV for the size. you’re essentially saying why are nissan versa’s so small for a large family. I agree there are limited options for large EV SUV’s (model x and e-tron comes to mind) though.

Agreed on all counts. They also really need to make wider back seats, or at least a viable 3rd row for not a lot of money. Model Y is not a viable 3rd row vehicle. Model X and Rivians are too expensive. Only the Lightning looks to finally fit the comfortable back seat for a reasonable price, once it’s available.

My kid 6-1 and 250 sits in the back seat of our Leaf. Front seat has to be a bit forward for him to be comfortable. Of course I also stuffed him in the back seat of the BMW 850 because that is what I had that day. Nobody was comfortable but me. 

They did, literally. It’s called the Bolt EUV. And most of that size went to the back seat and cargo area.

While interesting, this is not surprising. It’s no secret that auto manufacturers build to the test, so when you change the test, there’s going to be some catching up to do. Same thing happened with small overlap tests a few years back. Same thing will happen next time they change the parameters of “crash-worthiness.”

Maybe they should also consider how they are going to train the SERVICE department to handle this transition (i.e. little to no service will be needed aside from tires, wipers, and computer reprogramming  - remote?)

Direct ordering would be awesome, but the Dealer’s Association has a big problem with it. They also have deep pockets and are friendly with influential politicians on the take.

LOL... yup.  I did my last oil change on my Fit after about 12,000km or about 7500 miles.   And that was following the maintenance minder that tells me when the oil should be hcanged. 

Did overly long oil change intervals cause that? That it happened twice seems more like a manufacturing or design defect.

My grandfather only ever changed the filter in his car. He said, “Oil doesn’t get old. It just gets dirty.”

It’s NOT cheap though!  Calculate how much more it costs over the life of a car.  At $50 you’re close to a grand over 200k miles.

And thinking about a family hauler, go look at the crash ratings. Just dont put your family in one.
