I dream of the day when a female character's design is judged solely its narrative support and not whether or not players think she's hot. Women do not exist solely for the pleasure of others, and neither should female characters. I'm not holding my breath.

The depressing thing is that a lot of the audience isn't ready for diversity. Game length? That's something developers have complete control of. Diversity? That hinges almost entirely on a country's overall culture, on an individual's upbringing and life experiences, etc. Even when it's an NPC rather than the lead…

So if I went an made a game with a huge diverse cast; gay, bi, lesbian, tran, women, cripples, asians, blacks (but no straight white guys, because god forbid), and made it ten minutes long, it'd be the best thing ever? Because that's what I'm reading here.
