It's all relative, man. Much as I love Tartakovsky, that probably would have changed the content drastically. The big element in Sailor Moon that set it apart at the time was very much "girl power." Not that he didn't hack it with Powerpuff Girls, but... There's some substantive stuff in that manga.

Oh, don't let me first comment fool you though: these designs are amazing and flawless. I'm a huge fan of them. I've seen them floating around Tumblr for a while and I actually have the second Saturn design you posted as my iPhone wallpaper.

Hmmmm, haven't actually watched MLP in a while. I guess I wouldn't be surprised, though they certainly wouldn't be as up front about it as Sailor Moon was even in the 90's. And they beat around the bush pretty hardcore.

Truuue, that's a good point. Particularly without the solid lines this does kinda remind me of Samurai Jack. I think that had a much bigger visual impact on modern animation than people give credit for.

Oh, but it's a cartoon too. The parts where they're the "Sailor Scouts" is all animated.

That's fair. I honestly don't know that I've ever actually had a problem using sexy to sell products, for instance. Or even including sexy in things like video games. When people talk about how characters are designed too "sexy," whether they're a guy or a girl I'm just.. what's wrong with being sexy?

Seems like overkill. I got a 780 when I built one back in December.
