Those cyclists gave him quite the jitters, I tell you what.

What caused his PTSD, pray tell? Being held responsible for his actions?

I can’t speak for others, but the outrage is not that a father would defend his son, but the way Brock Turner’s father—heck, his mother, the rest of his family, and one of his idiot friends—minimized what he did and boo-hooed about how the conviction had impacted their lives and Brock Turner was so miserable or, in

Settle down. All religions have oppressive shit baked in, and I agree that none of that is good. But there are many ways to relate to a religious system personally and culturally, and you don’t get to say for other people that the way they do religion/feminism is wrong because that ancient bullshit exists in their

Philosophy PhD candidate here — It’s hard to overstate the extent of the climate problem in philosophy. I’m delighted that Pogge is finally being more publicly shamed, because we’ve all known about him for quite some time. It goes way beyond him though. Every time I meet a new woman grad student, the conversation at

These suggestions aren’t inherently bad, unless these are the only suggestions/information you give a daughter.

On the surface, it’s perfectly sound advice for young women. It sucks that life is this way, but no, the problem isn’t the advice.

I was 9 the first time I got the “rape only happens because women let it happen” speech.

These discussions are a given and we talk about this because we have to. Our daughter is going off to college in August and she is just as aware of it as we are. Parents have been having these conversations with their daughters for thousands of years.

I see alot of attention placed on the rapist, but I’ve yet to see the same amount of attention given to rape prevention.

You can have those conversations while also making it 100% clear that if she gets drunk and someone rapes her, it is 100% not her fault. Or his, if you raise a son. And those conversations need to happen EARLY. You can talk about boundaries at a really young age. The conversations can progress at an age-appropriate

Someone explain why the Stanford case — where the male was found guilty of ‘fingering’ a blacked out woman — received 10,000x the attention this HEINOUS caught-on-tape gang raping of a drugged woman received.

In part, because the Stanford case was such a clear illustration of how often rock-solid evidence and even a conviction doesn’t stop the system from bending over backward to protect rapists.

Good. Rapists get tried, occasionally. Not nearly as often as I’d like. Victims are tried every time.

Thank you for speaking about it, even if it’s a little bit. Big hugs to you!

I’m sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing resources for anyone who might need them.

When she talked about the bourbon toast to Spartacus, and all that it meant, I cried and cried.

Thank you for sharing this story. I had a very similar experience. I have never been able to completely tell the whole horrific experience to anyone.

So much warmth and healing to this brave woman (and her husband, and family). I’m commenting for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation- I faced this particular choice last year (though lucky to be not nearly as far along- terminated around 15 weeks).

I...don’t even know what to say but I want to say something. What a horrible thing to go through, and she seems much more together than I can imagine being in that situation.
