I’m sorry that you got stuck with a hot potato.  At this point, it’s best to just admit you got conned, cut your losses, and move on.

How many monkeys do you own

No, they’re just tired of repeating all of the ways that NFTs are horrible pyramid scheme scams for idiots.

Any day now my copy of Cable #1 will sell for millions!

There have been multiple games that allow reselling of content that didn’t rely on the blockchain. Even more games have a gray market for such transactions.

Fortnite could easily allow you to resell the skins you buy if they wanted to. It would be extremely simple, but extremely pointless as well because it doesnt make them money. And you dont have to use blockchain to do it either. Fuck, Diablo had a marketplace over a decade ago that you could sell weapons at

1999: “Well, the beanie baby market just collapsed, but at least I’ve got a garage full of stuffed animals I can give to a homeless shelter.”

I’m sure Disney’s cut of those Marvel titles also eat into profits. And we can only speculate how much of a knock on effect the Avengers flip had on Guardians.

I usually hate portmanteaus, but “Squenix” needs to be canon.

I still find it funny that SquareEnix is going to die by doing the same thing it always has done: abandon its IP to buy up some crap no one wants and make passive income off of it.

How about a receipt for a link to a photo of a tulip?

To be fair, if you look at the financials for the studios they’re selling, they are barely keeping their heads above water. Eidos Montreal had revenue of nearly $100m in FY 22 but their net profit after expenses was around $650k. Crystal Dynamics fared slightly better, but cost about as much to run and their profit

Thank God my money's safe in Bitcoin!

I can’t believe so many massive companies run by people who make stupid amounts of money could be wrong! Surely they should be the most capable among us? How else could they have made their fortunes??

Life is Strange like that

It would be more interesting to see what Squeenix’s total profitability without Final Fantasy XIV would be.

Nail on the head, as much as I like these studios and the titles they make the issue seems to stem from Square Enix having very little liquid funds to properly push the products while also actively hindering sales by forcing egregious microtransactions down the largest releases (Marvel’s Avengers would have done so

I can’t remember where I read this this morning. Disney apparently has the final word on Marvel’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, whether those can be sold or not.

Outriders is made by People Can Fly studio which is not owned by Square-Enix. Square-Enix is only the publisher of that game. Square-Enix do own the Ip though.

Why did they feel like holding onto these IPs?
