As usual, you’re wrong. I would absolutely eat the hell out of whatever vegan free-range single-origin taco cupcakes come out of that. (Okay, maybe not cupcakes. Cupcakes are trash.)

But wait, there’s more! The wiring is there for the actuator, albeit so we’ll hidden. BMW could have put plastic cladding all around the glass, but instead kept it svelte and functional.
GenXers are getting in their 40's right now, many are gainfully employed, and hence why cars like the E30 M3, Integra Type R, and Supra have EXPLODED in value. This is absolutely the market they want to be in.
E46 wagon driver here. Was also immediately a big fan of the rear glass action, use it almost every day and fully appreciated reading an article written with the sole purpose of celebrating this feature.
3. As you said, when you have dogs in the back, you can open the glass to grab stuff or put their leashes on without risking them jumping out. Our dogs are trained well not to jump out until you say “OK” but still, it’s nice. Also, it seems silly but when they get in, they often have their tails still sticking out so…
Love the Mittersill sticker -- got married at my in laws in Sugar Hill. I will buy that wagon if its a stick!
Also, it seems silly but when they get in, they often have their tails still sticking out so I’d open the glass, reach in to help them get where they need to be, then shut the hatch THEN shut the glass.
Username checks out.
An amazing amount of thought and engineering went into that... and I literally hadn’t noticed.
That last photo brings back memories of my e46 323iT wagon. Living in the northeast, and not having the xiT option available in 2000, I swapped out m+s tires for dedicated snow tires in the winter. I was able to store my tires at work in the warehouse. So twice a year I loaded tires back of my ‘sports’ wagon just like…
E91 carried over that design, too.
Same here #2 is the biggest one for me. When I had mine I used it to get 2X4s and that window made that process so easy.

I believe the e91 uses tension springs for the glass. I know this thanks to watching a repair video for some electronics hidden in the spoiler, where the handyman launched his tools and the retaining screws clear across his garage (bouncing it off the hood on the way).
I use this feature on my E91 almost every day. Do people/owners REALLY not know? Hard to believe.
My first thought was “WTF were they thinking?!”
I once sold a Merc in Nantucket. . . .
“The goal with this Uptis Tweel is to completely rid the average consumer of tire maintenance”
For what it’s worth, this is from the Astros’ game thread on Reddit:
“She is going be OK according to my mom. She was 4 rows away and just talked to security guard who said they are taking her to hospital for precautionary but early signs are good.
OK no picture of the culprit car that was stuck and a beach full of 4x4 trucks and no one could figure out how to help get the car unstuck. WTH
