Screw it, I’d take one for the team. The wife might disapprove, but dulce et decorum est pro patria buggero

You’re not at any more risk of being assaulted for not taking lessons, sure. You’re in more danger if it ever should happen to you though. The same way learning to swim doesn’t make you less likely to fall off a bridge into a lake, but gives you a better chance of surviving.

I don’t mind a civil discussion with people that disagree with me. I don’t mind a flaming row for that matter either. Mostly ‘cos I’m an argumentative old git at the best of times.

I said ‘should’ do, not ‘must’ do. In the same way we should teach our children to swim.

Not just women. Men should also take these classes. And boys. And girls. It’s not just a sexual predator that could attack you, it’s the mugger, the woman who caught you “eyeing up her man” in the bar and won’t let you leave.

Self-defence is an important skill girls and boys should learn. In the same way swimming is. Sure, you may go through your life entirely able to avoid danger the same way you may entirely avoid water. But no matter how careful you are, you might fall in to the lake one day.

Boxing. It’s the best self defence martial art out there. Fisticuffs are always in style.

This is on a poster in my eldest’s room. If I had a girl it would be in hers:

I know a kid called Luca. It’s just Italian for Luke. His dad is Italian/Croatian/Albanian mix (his family got around a bit).

How do you see it if it’s invisible? Throw paint on it?

I’d love to see the service workers’ loophole taken out of the current minimum wage system and have them paid per hour by their employer so that customers don’t feel obligated to tip.

I think the primary reason Sanders and Trump are doing so well in the US and why Corbyn did so well in the UK (and Tsipras did so well in Greece) is they have something the others struggle to show, which is authenticity. Even their severest critics don’t doubt they honestly believe in what they are espousing.

And in China, western born Chinese people are called bananas for the same reason.

Or people to whom *gasp* race isn’t actually important to them? The same way that for (most) white people, they don’t often think of their own race because they don’t experience any negatives associated with it.

Internalised whiteriarchy?

I’m not sure he/she was saying they are in any way opposed to each other, just that their experiences are likely to be different and so one might not be adequately able to represent the other.

Or could it be that purely being of a certain race doesn’t qualify you to speak for a certain race?

He is doing a remarkable job of staying just this side of legal. He’s a total psycho, but he seems to know the law.

*responded to wrong person. Stupid kinja*

This.
