Well, yes. Well thought-out plans should be the result of any avoidable disaster, but knee-jerk plans made on the back of vague evidence is a recipe for disaster (see ‘3 strikes’ rule etc).

Yeah, in the UK, it’s full pay for 3 months, I think... then part pay, then SMP (statutory maternity pay) at 9 months the pay dries up, but you get another 3 months unpaid.
