I always considered the Ghosts ‘N Goblins games to be 2D Dark Souls.

It’s mostly due to the fact that Moore’s Law stalled out about a decade ago. A top of the line CPU from ten years ago will run today’s games just fine. That’s never been the case before. Imagine running a game from 2012 with the best processor from 2002.
