If the manual crank window was given the same crankshaft/cables it would be as or more expensive? How the hell does that work? Are the electric motors free? The wiring? Or the usual suspect when electric windows fail, the switches? Those components are all free of charge? Even that little line of code in CAN bus

I’ve mentioned this a few times, but the same components that wear out in manual crank windows are all there in electric ones too. All you’re doing is adding more potentially failing components.

All the failing components you just described are still there in electric windows, they’ll fail there too. Except with electric windows you’ve added an electric motor, wiring and switches which can also fail. Three additional potential failing points added to what you clearly think is a pretty shitty mechanism. How

Oh no, so you had to go get another $2 crank handle from the junkyard?

Everything that can fail in a manually cranking window is part of the electric window mechanism. You’re replacing the crank with an electric motor, some wires and a switch. These days a few lines of code in the CAN-bus as well. You’re adding three components to the mechanism that can all fail individually.

What De Silva seems to have forgotten was that the 550 was a hypercar of the highest order when it came out. This MR2 competitor would have been a pretty sad homage. Porsche were/are doing this better with the Carrera GT and 918.

They’ve been taxing the living hell out of cars since the 70's, so make that 50 years of insane taxes. The last 20 years they’ve actually been easing car taxation. Obviously there are a lot fewer miles of road here in Norway and adding to that the vast majority of the population are concentrated in and around the 5-6

It is weird seeing a Legacy at this price. Around here they are more often than not half the price of their competition from the same year regardless of condition. I cannot for the life of me understand why, they just are. They’re usually well equipped and we even have winters here which make 4WD an attractive

I have replaced plenty of shit on cars that I don’t want or need on my own over the years. Electric windows/sunroofs and AC components being at the very top of that list.

How the hell did you break a crank window mechanism? Or were the plastic clampy things that hold the window to the mechanism broken? Cause they are there on electric ones too, plus the usual stuff that breaks.

As if that even was the point of what I said...

Less stuff on it, less stuff to go wrong. It really is that easy.

At least he wont have to worry about rent and other costs of living for another year or two.

I really don’t understand Jalop articles like this ...

Couldn’t agree more. I have a pretty good stereo in my living room, but the opportunity to actually use it? It’s been close to 7 years since I even turned on the amp to be honest. I haven’t even hooked it up since I moved two years ago, it’s just decoration at this point. In my car though? Every time I drive it.

We are pretty much the same age then. Don’t get me wrong though. I’d love to have a transportation pod with full autonomy for most of the driving I need to do. I have no particular need to drive my car to work or to the store, nor is there any enjoyment in it. It’s just not a realistic prospect for many, many years to

I don’t know how old you are, but fully autonomous cars is something none of us are likely to see in our lifetime. It’s one of those “So close, yet so far” things. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Don’t give anyone ideas now or you’ll be paying an extra $5K for your next car because someone decided this should be legislated.

I have been close to flipping a car years and years ago, but the level of irresponsible driving it took to get there is simply embarrassing today and even with that in mind the car didn’t actually flip. It just got close to it.

Absolutely. If you got coverage someone knows where your phone is. It’s been like that since they were invented. Doesn’t even need to be GPS or anything. I don’t use the internet on my phone, never have and it’s all turned off, and there are no 3rd party apps on it and never has been. When I get home to my computer
