The only electric car I ever drove was a Leaf and I can’t say that problem materialized for me. Then again I’ve mostly driven manuals all my life so the smooth output of an auto isn’t built into my muscle memory. I imagine it can get a little tricky in slippery conditions though.

Why does it need a shifter in the first place? Is there even a shifter cable leading down to the transmission any more? Even if there is, why not motorize the shifter cable and get rid of the shifter. Save themselves a couple of mechanical components that can and will fail.
