The description in the article was a bit fuzzy, but I was thinking of how you get your front wheel turned, and the way this usually happens is during a straight line brake that turns into a skid. A regular turn would actually involve counter-steering, which is generally done just enough to get the bike into a leaning

Great point. A highside has nothing to do with the wheel shape, and everything to do with the lack of training (or poor training) of the rider. If it has two (or three or four!) wheels and brakes, you can highside it.

Agreed, he's probably referring to what is commonly called a highside crash.

No, because you're essentially piling a second type of irritation onto the first. Removal or neutralization of the irritant is the way to go.

You're forcing me to do this again...

Great short!

Freudian slip alert - not sue, but use...

Thanks for an interesting article.

Delta has a very similar app. As much as I dislike traveling on Delta (prices, flight selection, service), the app makes getting through security much easier.

Now playing

I would think all of you io9ers would already know why Hy Brasil no longer appears on the map...

Since you're falling to your death, it doesn't matter. You won't be around to process the results anyway. Pain only hurts if you're around to recall it.

Sic transit gloria mundi.

Yes, the Out of Asia theory isn't new. Some anthropologists subscribe to the idea you suggest, that there were very likely multiple loci of homonins. Africa still has the strongest claim, but it pays to keep an open mind.

Most. Anemic. List. EVER.

Amen brother, amen. I don't worry my ugly little head about things like mineral oil because my summer weekends are consumed carbonizing any meat I can lay my hands on.

Well, yes, but organic when applied to chemicals or compounds just means that it's carbon based. Organic as applied popularly to foods and cosmetics means that it's produced without synthetic inputs or processes. That sort of lets mineral out of the latter group since it's refined to death.

I'm not sure I see all the "Edison hatred" you refer to, but historical investigation has certainly brought to light that Edison was much less than the American Saint most of us were taught he was.

Eh. Mineral Oil is indeed a petroleum byproduct. However it has been used in medicine for as far back as I can remember without any peer reviewed evidence of significant detrimental effect. Its most common internal use is as a remedy for constipation, since it has the effect of blocking water absorption through

Well..... close, kinda.

Eww. Great point, and it's surprising how few people understand that this is what is meant by cross contamination. Almost makes one want to go kosher!
