For a perfect steak I prefer the blowtorch method, after cooking with a setup loosely based on this. However I built mine using a 22qt roaster oven and all the parts are self contained in the roaster body, instead of a separate box.

I also switched the lighting in my home to 5000K cool white bulbs, and I prefer them a lot! Warm white 2700K bulbs just bug my eyes now though, which sucks because those are what everyone else uses.
