This headline provided the only laugh I’ve had in 24 hours.

I am not speaking of you specifically. But, yes, I think there are certain people who will look on situations like this with automatic cynicism. “Oh, look, there goes the white lady, trying to make herself feel better by talking to a minority about race.” And these are the same people who complain that we don’t talk

What a weird coincidence. I was on meth the whole time I was watching it.

Are you honestly implying that I am holding Tilda’s whiteness against her no matter what? If so then I really have no more to say to you. Good day.

I’m not saying that as a whole, white women aren’t racist as fuck, but there is a tendency to excuse and protect male behavior and then condemn women for it even more harshly. This happens to women of all races, across the board, and it’s not productive.

Except she wasn’t seeking to educate herself. She was seeking approval to assuage her white guilt, and did a fair bit of whitesplaining. Just because she was polite about it doesn’t mean it was a real effort.

I guess? I love Cho and her work and comedy and persona of give-no-fucks mixed with paralyzing self-hate brought on by living in a culture with narrow beauty standards you don’t fit because of ethnicity, body type and refusal to be submissive while maintaining a vivacious personality and unapologetic sex-drive. Her

Please. I am a person of color and you can come right off it. Don’t make this a “white women don’t get it” thing because the previous article, in which Margaret’s original comments exist without Tilda’s emails, feature plenty of comments about her being in the wrong. It’s only when more information came to light that

White people are the worst, but since college-educated white women were the only white demographic that majority-voted for Clinton instead of Trump, are you really going to say that they’re worse than white men?

Cho called her out. Swinton respectfully asked for more information. Don’t confuse mildly tone deaf with “inherently gross”. And stop acting like Swinton randomly asked a POC off the street.

I was not going to bother paying too much attention to it because I know if it were a black celebrity in Cho’s shoes, it will be crickets all around from Asian commenters. But damn! I didn’t think I could be more disappointed in so-called white liberals since the ‘throw black people under the bus and roll over it’

It is also a way of pre-shaming any well-meaning person who might reach out to someone to have a civil conversation. Swinton didn’t reach out to a token Asian—she reached out to someone who was vocal on an issue that had Swinton in the crosshairs.

Turning racial understanding and communication into a “damned if you

Anyone who isn’t creamy white will be the New Muslims. I had a senior citizen asshole scream at me, a few weeks before the election, to “go back to your country” and something about Iran and Sharia, while I was putting gas in my car. I’m Mexican (family from Texas - going way back) and mediterranean (immigrant

I don’t give a shit about comic books or comic books movies. It just occurs to me that in this scenario Margaret Cho is always going to lose because she is an awkward loudmouth and Tilda Swinton is always going to win because she is an elegant, cool lady. The Team Swinton folks should acknowledge that, yes? She comes

Yeah, I quit listening to Cho on this one. Tilda was earnest, honest and all class. Cho was school on Saturday.

Am I still the only one who cares about Mordo? Cause, yeah, Mordo. Somehow they changed his race with no one commenting (despite the Johnny Storm kerfuffle being in recent memory) while ALSO turning him into an actually interesting character. AND they finally got Wong out of the Asian Manservant niche (I’ve always

Does Margaret not realize her emails were fine, there is not problem with them. It is her lying about the content and tone of the discussion that there is something very wrong with.

Honestly, Cho has a good point but is shooting at the wrong target. She needs to take it up with the screenwriters who decided to change the character from an Asian man to a Celtic woman. Swindon was offered a role for which she was suited, based on the script, and she took it. Or am I missing something here??

I’m uncomfortable with how Cho has handled this.

Whatever Cho’s intentions, this ended up making her look like an ass rather than sparking a fruitful conversation.
