Oh my God the descriptions of the plague in Ken Follett’s “World Without End” gave me nightmares for weeks. I knew plague essentially behaved like a hemorrhagic illness, but the detail was brutal.

Although one would be hard-pressed to frame Molly Solverson as the series' lead, she's absolutely its protagonist, and is just the best.
