Because the minute they make their IP's available on other consoles, they effectively kill sales on their own. Even if we're talking about older games, if you want a Nintendo IP, you have to buy their hardware (There's also roms and such but I'm talking legitimate)

This is an excellent place to start. It's probably one of the easiest SMT games to get into and Atlus has really gone to some lengths to make sure that that it's a more accessible SMT game. That said it certainly it is a mainline SMT game so it hasn't been dumbed down and will still be a rather challenging experience.
It'll be familiar, but distinct in the way the story is told, and the overall pacing and gameplay. Mainline SMT games tend to be much harder and less forgiving and deal with more graphic and darker themes then that of the Persona line.
While the Xbox One sure does have a terrible rep at this point, I just can't imagine how the people at Double Helix must be feeling about this. To have people just blatantly hate your work must be a pretty bad feeling.
I guess this is going to be one game where the invisible walls feel really out of place. What with you being a ghost and all.
