I think "lizard-brain" is appropriate. There's nothing wrong with having a lizard brain, we've all got one and we couldn't function without it, but there's more to life than spaceships that go "whoosh" and weapons that go "bzzzzzap!".

I do at my job, but it's not universal (I don't even know whether it's the norm). I also get full pay for jury duty, but I work for litigation attorneys so they kind of HAVE to be supportive of that.
