Or maybe that person is simply saying that the first two stores cover their grocery shopping needs, so they don’t need to visit the other three stores for groceries.

This is an outstanding entry in the How I Work series! Meaningful and genuine answers. She'd be proud of me - I went to the Jony Ive article she referenced, and promptly saved it to Pocket. :)

Thanks for the detailed reply... that sounds pretty audacious! If I ever get brave enough to try it out, I'll have to come back to this post for reference. I'm thinking of getting a FireTV for the front-end box, but would need to come up with a box to run the backend. Currently all I have is a PogoPlug running Arch

I'd love to hear more about this setup that you have. I'm considering replacements for my aging AppleTV 2 that runs Kodi, with the potential to replace my cable company loaner DVR if I can find the right front-end/back-end setup. Bonus points if I can combine the Kodi, EPG and DVR functions into a single machine.

Yep - use on a glass cooktop stove. We bought one, and it stated in big bold letters in the instructions that cast iron cookware should NEVER be used with the cooktop.

I recommend banking separately, then figuring out a way that you can jointly cover expenses - divide it up, take turns paying the bills, etc. That way you can each have banking the way you prefer it. Also, that way, each of you is responsible for your own financial management, and you don't have to worry about what

Alan, thank you for putting so much time and effort into this post. I love reading a How I Work entry that is full of well-thought-out responses, and the bonus here is that you cared enough to link to several of the articles that underscore the points you were making. I've already saved this page to Pocket so I can

Sorry, but for me this was one of the more disappointing entries in this series. Sure, he's an astronaut, and that's cool... but I thought more than a few of the replies, while they may have been intended to sound humorous, sounded flippant instead.

Looks like there are at least three pair there in the lower left of the picture. Also, I know that the ExOfficio brand prides itself on being able to be hand-washed and quickly dried; they challenge people to travel extensively with 2-3 pair (wear one, wash the others). Who knows, it might actually work.

What OS/program are you using as your internet DVR? And what controls the interface at the TV - are you using RasPi units or something similar?

I just want to know what's with the picture of the creepy hand under the "Talk to an Expert" heading!

Dropbox - for obvious reasons
Evernote - same as above
Pandora - same as above
F.lux - my eyes thank me for the color temperature management at night
Podcast Addict - best podcast manage I've found for Android
Waze - favorite navigation tool for commuting
GasGuru - for finding the cheapest gas nearby, it just works

Which applications/sites were you able to get rid of? Just curious as to which of the aforementioned built-in features are good enough to replace an app.

Monoprice's DJ-style over-ears were already one of the best deals in headphones, but they're on sale today direct from the source, with free shipping. [Premium Hi-Fi DJ Style Over-the-Ear Pro Headphones, $20]

Amen to that! I use GV for multiple reasons, but one of them is that my "real" mobile phone number is from a different area code from the one where I live. Sometimes, to keep it simple, I like to give out my GV number (where the area code does match) so people don't give me a confused look. Another reason for using

I tried it on my HTC One and it didn't work. Looks like Amazon may still be working out some kinks.

Fair enough. I love USB drives, though, for the ability to access files at any time, on any machine, regardless of connectivity (for example, while on an airplane without wifi), or for moving files from one place to another without the need for storing on the cloud (and hence, protecting privacy if that's a concern).

It's probably not on here because it would make more sense in the Windows pack, rather than the Android pack.

Just curious... if flash drives are "so 2007", what do you propose as a modern alternative?

Another vote for Upton Tea. Their catalogs that they send out can seem overwhelming, but it's really more of a testament to the HUGE variety of tea that they stock. I've definitely found some favorites there, and I like the added touch that you can personalize the labels, which include the date that the package was
