I see what you’re getting at, but I have to disagree. They’re coming from completely different places stylistically, even if they have some similar elements. Anderson is doing more of a Brechtian distancing, whereas Lanthimos is more of a Bunuel surrealist.

In what world would it surprise people he’s not an asshole?

it takes a shit load of water to grow almonds so it’s not as eco-friendly as they would like you to think.

He’s still an evil cunt. Supernatural, religious, atheist or a furry, doesn’t matter. The word fits the individual.

I am still unclear on this bit on Roku. Do I need a Roku device to watch the show, or is there a way to stream it over AppleTV or YouTubeTV?

Supposedly, Mel and Sue were fairly protective of the contestants. When one would mess up a cake, Mel or Sue would immediately start cursing loudly near the shot to make it unusable.

On the other hand, I feel like most AV Club writers would be like, “HEY! Can you drop that cake again? We loved it the first time!”

The show is indeed a comfort show because it is comforting. That’s the kind of high-quality analysis I come here for.

Anyway, the show stands out because the contestants genuinely seem to like each other. I’ve watched most of the seasons and don’t recall a single instance of snark, catfighting/puffing up, backbiting,

If I weren’t so darned British, I might suggest the big difference is that the contestants are Americans.

We keep forgetting that women are just as likely to be terrible as men are.

I don’t mean to victim blame, but did Grossberg really expect something different than this when she went to work for Fox?

Women who work at a network that has been built around misogyny and the mistreatment of women are suddenly shocked to find misogyny and the mistreatment of women at said network.

We liked it, but this is my pet peeve, especially with streaming shows which seem to do it a lot. This was not a full season with a cliff hanger. This was a half season that did not tell a complete story and hoped to get renewed so it could finish the plot. I hate that.

It was okay. It’s a bit weird because I always imagined Snow himself creating the whole dystopian culture with the Games, but it turns out that the whole thing was that way before he was even born. Imagine if it the Star Wars prequels revealed that the Empire was around in Anakin’s youth and he simply rose in power in

For all we know he found an old iPhone in a drawer that could still connect to the internet. This will only continue to be a problem as we gather more devices. A little sympathy for parents who were aware there was a problem and tried their best to alert authorities. The system failed them and that poor boy.

He didn’t ignore it. He actively encouraged it.

Turns out that Musk’s plan to just ignore all the bad stuff of Twitter didn’t make it stop.

Elon Musk is now doing free work for all the Law & Order: SVU script writers. I seriously wonder if he'll ask for a check.

If Republicans don’t want us to get abortions, they should make it easier for us to raise children without losing economic gains. And they should also shift the focus to men’s accountability. Did you know that 100% of ALL pregnancies (both planned and unplanned) are caused by men? Shocking, I know. Maybe they should

He’d rather the children die in the mines or factories or poor houses as “God” intended!
