I see what you’re getting at, but I have to disagree. They’re coming from completely different places stylistically, even if they have some similar elements. Anderson is doing more of a Brechtian distancing, whereas Lanthimos is more of a Bunuel surrealist.

Supposedly, Mel and Sue were fairly protective of the contestants. When one would mess up a cake, Mel or Sue would immediately start cursing loudly near the shot to make it unusable.
