U.S.A. is not perfect, but this defense is a logical fallacy. "You do bad stuff too!" is what a 9 year old says when they get in trouble.

I believe that is the "tu quoque" logical fallacy.

I don't think she became a diabetic so she could push a diabetes drug. She isn't shamelessly plugging this drug because she has some sort of agenda. She came out when she was ready—why pick on her?

I work in the psychology field and, as interesting as evolutionary psychology can be, it explains behavior in such an ass backwards way that every paper needs to be prefaced with "Please take this with a grain of salt."

I heard about this a while ago. The story just makes me sad. Could you imagine being his parents? The feeling of helplessness when you realize what your child has done and how there is little you can do to help him. It just makes me sad :(

I have not. I know very little about geology— as in nothing. One of the officers I work with in my battalion went to college to be a geologist, though.

Tu quoque is more of a "you're a hypocrite so what you say doesn't matter" kind of argument. "I know you are, but what am I" doesn't seem hypocritical. I feel weird, though, even comparing "I know you are but what am I" to a logical fallacy. My college ethics teacher would be disappointed, lol. :D

They need to adjust the logical fallacies to include stuff like that. They can call it "the fallacy of I know you are but what am I?"

It's definitely not Obama's, like in the title, because that is singular possessive and the title is clearly referring to the entire family. I never know when to use s' even though I learned it in grammar school and college.
