Time commitment also matters. smart phone games generally can be played in 5-15 minute sessions. Basically if you ahve time to take a shit, you can get a round or two in.

Most mobile games and microtransactions make the bulk of their money off the very small fraction of the users who spend stupid amounts of money on the microtransactions.

Now playing

One thing to keep in mind is the following two truths:

Being a skilled worker with a hard to replace skillset in a secotr where filling open positions can be a challenge is not a bad gig if you can get it.

The point of monopoly legislation (as far as I understand it), is generally to make sure the dominant actor in the market cannot stifle competition or new entries. And that is primarily to protect the interests of the consumers. In the context of videogames, Microsoft’s primary competition are Sony and Nintendo.

Most senior game devs get into that position because generally, yes they do want to make games for the rest of their lives. I think the situation is less “I am not going to do this any more” than it is “fuck these assholes in particular, I am out”.

Who says it is just Blizzard?

There are basically to ecosystems / levels of competition to deal with when releasing a game.

I think that the guidelines should be roughly as follows for this kind of ‘live streaming journalism of an active shooting’.

Best game reveal still has to be the Nintendo Direct that announced Smash Bros with “and here is one more announcement”, had Splatoon characters running around and transitioned to Smash.

I expect that after the bundle becomes unavailable, the individual titles will be available on e-shop in some way.

The Metroid series is generally about a single person on a hostile planet fighting aliens featuring a silent protagonist. There are almost no hollywood movies with exactly 1 speaking part. The closest is Gravity, and even that starts with 2 characters.

I wonder how many collectors are looking for the original japanese / Famicom editions of games compared to the North American versions?

The 13 year old one should be different:

People that weren’t going to pay regardless probably shouldn’t be watching that content regardless. And too many people justify piracy by saying shit like ‘well, they made hundreds of millions anyway. They aren’t really hurt’.

Something to keep in mind:

Wrong question.

Wrong question.

I expect my kids will have to deal with some of these issues as they grow up as they are half Japanese. However, I do think that expecting countries that do not have a history of immigration to view and handle racial issues the same way as Canada / The United States is a recipe for frustration and disappointment.

Standard Disney decision making for game development; Every few years, they think “We have been licensing this stuff out, they get rich off their IP. We can make more money if we publish it ourselves!”. So they open or buy a game studio and make games for3-6 years.
