Yeah, I agree— especially since in this case they didn't just borrow themes/ideas from the source material, but basically lifted the whole thing, right down to specific details.

I agree that the 'Rumsfeld Dinner Theatre' with the guards was hard to watch (how could it not be), but I feel like Myles and many other reviewers are inflating it to something beyond what it is, and saying or implying the prisoners are getting revenge on the guards by treating them just as badly as they were treated.

One of the small things I appreciate is how confident OITNB is with its use of other languages. It makes complete sense that the Latina inmates would speak to each other primarily in Spanish, even more so now they're the ones in control, but I feel like on other shows they might just speak English cause of reluctance

Yes! It made me so happy, after all the visitation scenes where Yadriel barely spoke and Maria was distraught he wasn't talking to their baby, to see that scene where he came back and was bouncing the baby and talking happily to both of them. Strange since it was only a few scenes but that was one of the OITNB arcs I

Yeah, also it's been pretty well established that most of the older inmates are the ones with far more serious/violent crimes to their names, presumably cause they're serving long sentences and got moved to minimum security from max. As opposed to the younger inmates who mostly seem to be serving fairly short

It's interesting that Janae's flashback story had some remarkable similarities to the This American Life episode 'Three Miles'.

I am LGBT, I went to university in Japan for years, where I was part of the LGBT society. So yeah, I know a few.

Representation IS part of LGBT rights— by no means all, but it is significant. You're drawing a boundary between what is 'judging' what is 'human rights' based purely on your own definitions, not cause you're more open minded or less ethnocentric than those people criticising Persona. A game or book or movie doesn't

Do you realise how patronising it is to assume LGBT people in Japan don't want more than just to not be outright persecuted? The view you're taking is moral relativism, and by that token, criticising, say, excessive sexualisation of minors in Japan, or FGM in certain African countries, is nothing more than

This is a ridiculous argument. Criticising some aspect of another culture isn't automatically ethnocentric. The prevailing attitude in Japan of 'oh, you can be gay, just keep it quiet' (also present in many other countries, including the US) IS homophobic. You can argue it's better than outright, aggressive

I loved the complete disdain/disgust with which he said 'live in a HOUSE?' God I'm going to miss Elijah.

It shows a stunning lack of understanding and amount of naivite that you think for 'girls' it's as simple as 'if you don't want to have sex, then don't' is disgusting, honestly.

She was invited to the house of a famous author to discuss an article she wrote about him. He knew she was a reporter who had criticised him for sexual assault. She should have expected sexual advances from that set-up? Really? Wow.

Yes, it is very disturbing. What exactly were the 'good points' Chuck put across in the episode? He loves his daughter, so he can't be a predator? He can't control his urges(ugh)? Why are so many commenters acting like it is ridiculous that Hannah could feel threatened and coerced when an older, famous, richer man,

For me Vincent Kartheiser was definitely the best actor on Mad Men. And there was lots of great acting, but he just killed it: the weird simmering resentment, the slimy obsequiousness, all the physical stuff like the way he was always a bit twitchy and stormed around the office when he got annoyed. He was just

Seamless, huh?

Please stop saying Clinkle, it jars the ear

IIRC they said it actually happened but they thought it was funny enough to re enact it for filming with bits added in for extra humour ('chances of survivial' etc)

It was the 'Jesus, Monica!' That sold it for me
