On a Venture Bros. commentary track Doc Hammer said he had an idea for a Hellraiser reboot that took the franchise back to basics but still acknowledged the continuity of all the shitty sequels somehow.  I like that approach better.  Requires a more creative mind.

rmlohner does get that this is a trailer, right? I mean, I absolutely get the whole attachment they have to this franchise from watching the other films I guess, but I don’t think we should treat how a trailer is cut as fully indicative of the final cut, and perhaps trailers shouldn’t give away the more entertaining…

I didn’t like the second, but the video game did a great job working as a sequel to both. Without doing a Star Wars-esque pseudo-remake, it combined Gozer, Ivo Shandor, and the nature of the slime into a coherent story.  So it can be done.
